The Ghostwriter by A.R. Torre

Rating: ★★★★★

Dates Read: 2/6/23 - 2/7/23

Four years ago, I pulled off the ultimate lie. I spun a tale so convincing that even the police, my friends, and family bought into it. And honestly, I wasn't surprised. Crafting stories is what catapulted me to fame and fortune. With fifteen bestsellers under my belt and a legion of fans, I've become quite the storyteller.

But now, I've got one last story to write. And let me tell you, it's going to be a real showstopper. I'm planning a mind-blowing plot twist that will leave everyone breathless and stunned, gasping for air.

They say words can't hurt you, but this story? It's different. It's going to be the one that takes me down for good.

This book is not a romance. It is contemporary fiction, but very suspenseful in nature. It is about a famous romance author and a dark secret she keeps.

“If you lie enough times, no one believes your truth.”

No matter how many times you try to figure it out, trust me, you won't see this coming. This story will take you on a completely unexpected journey, and that's exactly why I loved it. So, buckle up and get ready for an adventure like no other as you get further into Helena's story. When Torre isn't busy blowing your mind with her plot twists, she's taking you on an emotional rollercoaster. Her writing makes you feel every single thing her characters are going through - the excitement of love, the agony of loss, and heartbreak.

At first glance, it's hard to find redeeming qualities in Helena. She comes off as cold and rigid, living by her own set of strict rules. You'd never guess that she's actually a famous author with fifteen love stories to her name. But when something major happens, she throws away her latest work and gives herself just three months to write the most important story of her life - her truth. It's her chance to reveal what really happened four years ago, the day she lost everything.

What made this story truly magical was how the author teased me with shocking revelations along the way. Helena's own words, through memories, flashbacks, and scenes, delivered these bombshells. Even though Helena isn't the most likable character, you have to admire her honesty. She never pretended to be anything other than who she was - a woman driven by her passion for writing, unapologetic about bringing her visions to life on paper, no matter the consequences. Surprisingly, it's the ghostwriter who manages to soften Helena's edges and bring some much-needed heart and balance to the mix.

The ending of this novel absolutely blew my mind, and I can't wait to start reading the rest of her work. I absolutely recommend this novel to anyone reading this.
