Dates Read: 7/13/23 - 7/14/23
Meet Jane, a broken dog-walker at Thornfield Estates, a gated community in Birmingham, Alabama. She seizes opportunities to take things from her wealthy clients without being noticed. When she meets Eddie Rochester, the mysterious widower of the neighborhood, she sees a chance for financial security and protection.
As Jane and Eddie fall for each other, Jane is haunted by the legend of Bea, Eddie's late wife who had a successful lifestyle brand. Jane wonders if she can measure up to Bea's glamour. Meanwhile, Jane's own past threatens to catch up with her.
I liked this book, but I haven't read Jane Eyre. However, I have read Verity, and this book reminded me of it with a better ending. I found this book to be somewhat predictable, likely because I've read many thrillers and because it shares similarities with Verity. While the characters were mostly likable, I must admit that I found myself rolling my eyes at certain points throughout the story.
This book is fast-paced and an enjoyable, easy read. If you liked Verity, you'll probably enjoy this one too.
P.S. SPOILER
I definitely think they both survived.
