The Final Gambit by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

The Inheritance Games #3

Rating:

Dates Read: 2/22/23 - 2/22/23

Avery Kylie Grambs is on the brink of inheriting billions, but she must endure a few more challenging weeks at Hawthorne House to claim her fortune. The paparazzi are relentless, financial pressures are mounting, and danger lurks around every corner. The only solace Avery finds is in the company of the enigmatic Hawthorne brothers, whose lives are intricately entwined with hers. Secrets are shared, and bonds are formed.

However, as the countdown to Avery's unimaginable wealth approaches, a new problem arises—a visitor seeking her aid. This unexpected guest's presence could alter everything. Avery and the Hawthorne brothers find themselves embroiled in a perilous game against an unknown and formidable adversary, and they realize there's one last puzzle to solve before the final reveal.

I absolutely adore Avery! Throughout the trilogy, she undergoes a natural and realistic transformation, shedding her imposter syndrome and finding her place in the Hawthorne world. Witnessing her development into a strong, independent, and intelligent heiress was a delight. The Hawthorne brothers, while distinct with their one-dimensional personalities, added an intriguing dynamic to the story. The sense of found family, experienced alongside Avery, created a comforting atmosphere that resonated with me.

The mystery woven by Barnes was engrossing, but at times, the complexity of the web and the abundance of characters made it a bit challenging to follow. The repetitive names and some outdated language were minor drawbacks, but they didn't detract significantly from the overall experience. The plot moved swiftly and remained satisfying, maintaining the formulaic appeal of the previous books. The mystery in this installment was exceptionally captivating, leaving me unable to predict the twists and turns. It was a thrilling ride.

I'm a huge fan of this series and eagerly anticipate the fourth book. The ending of this one felt incredibly satisfying to me.
