Such a Quiet Place by Megan Miranda

Rating: ★★★☆☆

Dates Read: 9/22/23 - 9/24/23

In the once tranquil neighborhood of Hollow’s Edge, a murder shattered the peace, implicating Ruby Fletcher in the crime. After her conviction is overturned, Ruby returns to Hollow’s Edge, raising suspicion among the residents. The neighborhood, haunted by the memory of the Truetts' murders, becomes a hotbed of secrets and fear. Harper Nash, living in the house once shared with Ruby, grapples with conflicting emotions. She fears the potential danger Ruby might bring, yet can’t turn her away. Suspicion and threats escalate, pushing Harper to uncover the truth about the murders before another victim falls prey to the killer’s sinister plans.

This book masterfully builds a growing sense of dread within its chapters, a testament to Miranda's storytelling prowess. I particularly appreciated the format of unraveling the mysteries across different "days," which added depth to the narrative.

The setting, nestled among neighbors by a beautiful lake with a surrounding forest, was atmospheric and intensified the interactions among the characters. However, Harper's brother felt unnecessary, and the twist didn't feel entirely plausible. The abundance of miscommunication added to the chaos, making it hard to sympathize with any character.

Despite this, the gripping plot compelled me to keep turning the pages, unable to put the book down.
