The End of Her by Shari Lapena
Rating: ★★★☆☆
Dates Read: 10/5/23 - 10/8/23
Newlyweds Stephanie and Patrick, parents to newborn twins, seem to have it all. However, their blissful life takes a dark turn when a woman from Patrick's past accuses him of murdering his first wife, whose death he had claimed was accidental. Stephanie, amidst sleep-deprived confusion, grapples with the shocking revelation. Patrick maintains his innocence, dismissing it as blackmail. The question looms: is Patrick telling the truth, or has Stephanie made a grave error? The story unfolds in suspense, leaving readers on edge, wondering about the ultimate truth.
Shari Lapena's talent shines through in her ability to craft truly unlikable characters, a skill on full display in this book. Despite my frustration with the characters, I appreciated the intriguing web of interconnected storylines. However, the abundance of annoying characters made it challenging to fully enjoy the narrative.
While this book didn't leave a strong impression on me, I hesitate to give it a low rating because it's not inherently bad; it just wasn't phenomenal to me. It was just okay. However, I acknowledge Lapena's skill as an author, and I remain open to exploring her other works in the future.
