Lightlark by Alex Aster

Every century, Lightlark Island hosts the Centennial, a deadly game for the rulers of six realms. They're invited to break the curses plaguing their lands, but here's the catch—only by sacrificing one ruler can the curses be lifted.
Isla Crown, ruler of Wildling, a realm cursed to kill those they love, is pressured to win the Centennial and end her people's suffering. To survive, Isla has to lie, cheat, and betray, all while dealing with the complications of love. The game is deadly, and the choices she makes will determine not just her fate, but the fate of her entire realm.
The start of the story was a bit confusing, making it hard to follow the details initially. However, despite some lower ratings, I found myself disagreeing. Maybe it's because I'm oblivious to any drama surrounding the author, or perhaps I'm just an easy-to-please reader.
I really enjoyed the love triangle, the storyline, and the main character. The plot twist took me by surprise, and overall, I had a good time with it. Looking forward to picking up the next book!
