All the Dangerous Things by Stacy Willingham
Rating: ★★★★☆
Dates Read: 12/27/23 - 12/29/23
A year ago, Isabelle Drake's world shattered when her toddler son, Mason, was abducted from his crib during the night. When the police investigation stalled, Isabelle was left consumed by an unrelenting quest to reunite with Mason. The toll on her is evident; a year of nearly no sleep has started to weigh on her sanity.
Desperate for answers, she agrees to be interviewed by a true-crime podcaster, hoping to unearth overlooked leads. Yet, the interviewer's probing into Isabelle's past stirs unsettling memories from her own childhood, casting doubt on her recollection of Mason's disappearance.
With her insomnia amplifying uncertainty, Isabelle is determined to unravel the truth, even if it forces her to confront uncomfortable realities and question everything she thought she knew.
The story started a bit slow, but it never lost my interest. It's the kind of book that kept me tempted to stay up all night reading, especially with each chapter ending on it's own mini cliffhanger.
Isabelle's struggle with insomnia felt real, adding a layer of depth to the narrative. While it may seem like a typical 'unreliable narrator', it goes so far beyond that. I really enjoyed the ending, and Willingham has become an auto-read author for me.
