War Storm by Victoria Aveyard
Red Queen #4
Rating: ★★★☆☆ (3.75/5)
Dates Read: 12/15/23 - 12/21/23
Scars of betrayal and the thirst for freedom fuel Mare Barrow's resolve to overthrow the oppressive Silver regime. But claiming the crown requires an uneasy alliance with the one who shattered her heart, Cal. His powerful Silver allies join forces with Mare's Scarlet Guard, forming a formidable resistance.
However, Maven, consumed by a twisted obsession, will not relinquish his claim on Mare. Driven to madness, he unleashes a reign of terror, threatening to obliterate anything and anyone standing in his way.
War clouds gather on the horizon, threatening to engulf everything Mare has fought for. With the fate of both Reds and newbloods hanging in the balance, a crucial question echoes: can victory topple the Silver kingdoms, or will Mare's voice be silenced forever?
War Storm wraps up the series nicely, especially with Mare's character growth. She's clear about what she wants and goes all in without compromises.
The messy war scenes feel real, with battles, shifting alliances, and plenty of political twists. I'm done with Cal, and I'm mad at Mare for taking him. He only changed because it was his last, and final option. I did however fully accept that I love Evangeline in this one, and I also really liked Iris!
The book captures the weight of decisions tied to duty, honor, and sacrifice. Overall, it's a solid ending to a good series.
