The Woman Who Lied by Claire Douglas
Rating: ★★★☆☆
Dates Read: 2/6/24 - 2/18/24
Emilia Ward is a regular mom living in suburban London with her family. She's also a successful author known for her detective novels featuring Miranda Moody.
But things take a creepy turn when events from Emilia's latest book start happening in real life. At first, she thinks it's just a strange coincidence. But when it keeps happening—and someone she knows dies in the same way as a character in her book—Emilia gets scared.
She has to figure out why this is happening, how someone knows what she's writing, and most importantly, how to keep her family safe from whoever is behind it all. It's a race against time to unravel the mystery before it's too late.
I went into this hoping for a gripping story like others I've read from Douglas, but I struggled with it. The beginning felt slow because there was too much detail that made it hard to get into. The plot got really complicated, and I found it tough to follow.
Even though the idea behind the story was interesting, it didn't feel as well done as her other books. I just wanted to finish it quickly because it was hard to keep up with.
The big surprise in the story wasn't much of a surprise for me. Overall, while there were some exciting parts, I ended up feeling disappointed and confused by the end. Nonetheless, thank you to NetGalley and Edelweiss for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
