Dark Corners by Megan Goldin

Rachel Krall #2

Rating: ★★★★☆

Dates Read: 12/14/23 - 12/17/23

Terence Bailey, suspected in six murders, is about to walk free. Then, influencer Maddison Logan vanishes after visiting him. Is she his next victim, or something more?

Baffled by Maddison's online ghostliness, the FBI calls in Rachel Krall. Undercover at the dazzling BuzzCon, Rachel uncovers a world of influencer rivalries, secrets, and chilling possibilities.

As a familiar symbol resurfaces, a terrifying truth emerges: Bailey may have an accomplice, one with a deadly online obsession. Now Rachel, herself a target, must confront the real dangers lurking in the dark corners of the internet and her own past.

“Always know what you’re walking into. Dark corners can be danger points.”

While I may have missed the courtroom setting, Dark Corners offers a fast-paced dive into the dark underbelly of influencer culture. Rachel Krall rises to the challenge, showcasing new layers of grit and vulnerability as she faces cyber threats and real-world danger alongside Agent Martinez. I actually really enjoyed getting to see a different side of Krall, and I hope to see more of Agent Martinez in future novels!

The story unfolds through an intricate plot with clever twists and red herrings, culminating in a satisfying ending. Goldin expertly blurs the lines, keeping you guessing about threats and motives until the final reveal. Dark Corners offers an unsettling glimpse into influencer culture and features suspenseful twists that make it a must-read for thriller fans.
