Five years ago, the murder case of schoolgirl Andie Bell was seemingly closed, with Sal Singh identified as the culprit. The entire town believes he is guilty, but Pippa Fitz-Amobi, who grew up in the same small town, isn't convinced. For her final year project, she decides to delve into the case and begins uncovering hidden secrets that someone is desperate to keep concealed. As Pip gets closer to the truth, she realizes that the real killer might still be at large, and she becomes a target in their efforts to prevent the truth from coming to light. Finally getting around to reading this series by Holly Jackson was worth the wait! This thriller had me hooked from the start, and it managed to keep me on my toes throughout. Just when I thought I had it all figured out, the plot took unexpected turns that left me guessing. The abundance of clues and red herrings on every page kept me engrossed in the story, making it impossible to pause and come up with my own theories. I loved how the final plot twist blindsided me, leaving me in awe of the author's skillful storytelling.
Pip and Ravi were standout characters, and their chemistry was simply adorable. Pip's intelligence and determination made her a compelling heroine, and I couldn't help but cheer for her. The blend of third-person narrative and Pip's notes on the case added depth to the storytelling, making the book even more engaging.
The romance in the story was beautifully portrayed. I appreciated that there were no miscommunications, and the motives behind the characters' actions made perfect sense. The couple's thoughtfulness towards each other made them an ideal duo, and I found myself invested in their relationship. Jackson crafted such a touching and heartwarming connection between Pip and Ravi.
Now that I've experienced the magic of this book, I can't wait to dive into the rest of the series. After getting through a few ARCs, I'll be immersing myself in more of Holly Jackson's captivating storytelling.
