The Elite by Kiera Cass

The Selection #2.

Rating: ★★★★☆

Dates Read: 8/18/23 - 8/18/23

In "The Selection," the group of girls competing for Prince Maxon has dwindled to six. America is torn between her feelings for Maxon and her first love, Aspen. As the competition intensifies, America's struggle to choose becomes more challenging. Time is running out, and she must make a decision before her chance slips away.

I enjoyed "The Elite" more than the first book, giving it four stars. While I have a strong fondness for Maxon, I found some aspects of the book lacking. America's indecisiveness between Maxon and Aspen got a bit tiresome.

There wasn't as much Maxon in the book as I would have liked; it felt like America spent most of her time talking about him. Aspen's character also disappointed me. He seemed controlling and not fully supportive of America's potential. Celeste's actions with Maxon were frustrating, and I wished she'd stay in the background. I'm happy for Marlee, and I'll miss her.

The rebel plotline remains intriguing, and King Clarkson's actions raised questions. Overall, the book was enjoyable, but there are many unanswered questions. I'm hopeful that "The One" will provide a satisfying conclusion to the series.
