The Heir by Kiera Cass
The Selection #4.
Rating: ★★★☆☆
Dates Read: 8/18/23 - 8/20/23
Princess Eadlyn, raised on her parents' fairy-tale romance, unexpectedly finds herself in a Selection of her own, despite her reluctance towards love and marriage. As the competition begins, Eadlyn navigates the challenges of finding a partner, discovering unexpected connections, and exploring the possibility of her own happily ever after, challenging her previous beliefs about romance and relationships."The Heir" was a bit of a letdown compared to "The Selection." The protagonist, Eadlyn, came off as selfish and unlikable. Her constant complaints and lack of self-awareness made it hard to connect with her. The romance was predictable, lacking chemistry, and Eadlyn's treatment of the contestants was patronizing.
The supporting characters felt underdeveloped, and Eadlyn's inability to handle criticism was frustrating. However, there were some redeeming qualities, particularly the moments involving Eadlyn's brother, Ahren, and her parents, Maxon and America.
Despite these positives, Eadlyn's character flaws and the lack of engaging romance made this installment disappointing. This just felt unnecessary, but now I'm invested so I have to read the next one.
