Twelve by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
The Naturals #4.5
Rating: ★★★☆☆ (3.5/5)
Dates Read: 1/7/24 - 1/7/24
Cassie Hobbes, now in charge of the FBI's Naturals program with her fellow Naturals, faces a challenging case in a coastal Maine town. Twelve-year-old Mackenzie McBride is convinced a string of teen suicides are actually murders. Threatening to jump from a lighthouse, she demands the FBI agents who saved her six years ago. With shared childhood traumas among the Naturals, they rush to investigate Mackenzie's claims and the mysterious deaths amidst an approaching storm. The race against time intensifies as they search for the truth behind the suicides and Mackenzie's pleas for justice.
I enjoyed getting to see the Naturals after everything that happened at the end of Bad Blood, but I just didn't feel as pulled into the story with this one.
It was good, but I wish this went further into their pasts than it did. I definitely think there's potential for a spin-off, maybe about the program with our Naturals running it. I'd love to read that.
I am so glad Sloane is finally getting her happy moment, even if I only got to read crumbs about it. Overall, this was nice and I loved being able to read just a little bit more about Cassie, Michael, Dean, Sloane, and Lia.
