The Last Word by Taylor Adams
Rating: ★★★☆☆
Dates Read: 1/31/24 - 2/2/24
Emma lives alone in a remote house on the Washington coast, except for her dog and occasional interactions with neighbors. After she leaves a bad review for a horror novel, the author, H.G. Kane, starts harassing her online. Strange things start happening, making Emma wonder if Kane is actually dangerous. As she digs into his past, she discovers his other disturbing books and begins to fear for her safety.
I was really drawn to the idea behind this book. I do have to say, the plot was kind of obvious. I also wasn't the biggest fan of the way the book was laid out. It was hard to tell what was real, and at first I loved that, but then one perspective would go on for like an hour or two, and the next would take us back to the beginning. It's also very, very gruesome.
If you're into mysteries and thrillers and can spot clues easily, you might see where it's going. Still, I found it enjoyable overall. I like Adams' work, and am definitely still eager to read more from him.
