Letters of Enchantment #1
Rating: ★★★★★
Dates Read: 3/15/24 - 3/20/24
After years of dormancy, the gods are at war again. But Iris Winnow, an eighteen-year-old trying to keep her family together, has other worries. Her mom is battling addiction, and her brother is missing from the front lines. Iris hopes to win a job as a columnist at the Oath Gazette to help her family.
To cope with her stress, Iris writes letters to her brother, but they end up in the hands of Roman Kitt, her rival at the newspaper. They start exchanging anonymous letters, forming a connection that carries them through battles for Iris's brother, humanity's fate, and maybe even love.
This book has a captivating writing style that makes the heavy events in the plot feel lighter. It suits the characters' personalities well, making it feel like they're telling their own story.
The pace of the story varies, sometimes slow and then picking up, but it never gets boring. Iris is a fantastic character, portrayed in a way that makes you want to protect her. Her dialogue feels wise and strong.
While the world-building could have been better, it didn't take away from my enjoyment of the story. Overall, I loved it and can't wait for the next one.
