After their mother passes away, three siblings come together in their small Wisconsin hometown to settle her affairs. Beth stayed home and cared for their mother, while Nicole, battling addiction, kept her distance. Michael, living out of state, returns after seven years.
While going through their mother's belongings, they find old home videos. One tape from 1999 shocks them: it shows their father covered in blood with a dead body, discussing how to dispose of it. The video ends abruptly.
Now, Beth, Nicole, and Michael must decide whether to uncover the dark secret hidden in their past or leave it buried with their mother.
The tension and real-life exchanges between them make their story engaging. We get to see things from each sibling's perspective, which adds depth to their journey of discovery and family dynamics.
I enjoyed how the characters felt genuine, and their struggles felt relatable. The book isn't just about surprises; it's also about the emotional journey these characters go through. You really connect with them and cheer for their growth throughout the story. The ending ties things up nicely while leaving room for more questions.
While it wasn't the most mind-blowing book I've ever read, it was very enjoyable and would make a great movie. I'm excited to see what Jeneva Rose writes next.
