Finale by Stephanie Garber

Caraval #3

Rating: ★★★★☆ (4.75/5)

Dates Read: 2/14/24 - 2/16/24

Two months have passed since the Fates broke free from their card prison, Legend took control, and Tella learned her love interest wasn't real. Now, Tella must choose whether to trust Legend or a former enemy. Scarlett faces a life-altering secret, while Legend grapples with a decision that will define him. Caraval may be over, but a new high-stakes game has begun, with winners and losers risking it all.

As someone who really enjoyed the Caraval series, I don't think Finale quite reached the same level of excitement for me as the second book, but Stephanie Garber's writing is still captivating.

What I loved most about Finale was how Garber writes. Her words make you feel like you're in a magical world, even when the story focuses more on real-life issues rather than the fantasy of Caraval.

One of the standout characters for me was Jacks. His complexity and struggles made him really interesting, and I found myself rooting for him to find happiness. The emotions in Finale hit me hard. Garber doesn't hold back on exploring the characters' pain and grief, and it feels real and relatable. Tella's character development was also a highlight. She went from someone I didn't really like in the first book to becoming my favorite over Scarlett.

While the pacing could be slow at times, especially when focusing on the characters' inner struggles, it allowed for a deeper exploration of their emotions. Overall, Finale might not have been my favorite of the three, but it was still a satisfying end to the series. I'm curious to see what Garber has in store with her next book, Once Upon a Broken Heart.
